For nearly a quarter of a century the Royal Air Force in Lincolnshire has been closely associated with a small but very active charity in Lincoln.

Current and past servicemen and women of various RAF Stations, including RAF Waddington, have been providing essential people power and helped this charity provide a vital service to the elderly and disabled members of the community in and around Lincoln.

Lincoln Area Dial-a-Ride was formed in 1987 as a “Not for profit Charitable Company” to provide affordable and accessible transport for the elderly and disabled members of Lincoln and the surrounding villages.
Although vital financial help was received from the statutory authorities of Lincoln and Lincolnshire, by far the most decisive help was received from the small army of volunteer drivers who, initially using their own cars, helped this organisation grow into the company that it is today with eight fully converted minibuses capable of handling any need that a user member may have.

It is currently carrying around 27,000 passengers a year, many of whom would not be able to get out at all and would become prisoners within their homes were it not for the service.

These distinctive minibuses, almost as well known around Lincoln as Eddie Stobart lorries are around Europe, can be seen out and about every day helping those most in need and are largely driven by volunteers.

This band of true stalwarts containing a high percentage of current and past servicemen and women of the RAF give their time for free which keeps the running costs down to a minimum, hence making this an affordable service for those that need to use it.

As with all charitable organisations there is always a need for more volunteers, if you think you could help, at the same time enjoying the feeling of doing something really worthwhile why don’t you give Rik a call on 01522 800100 to get more information.

Lincoln needs you and you are guaranteed to gain immense satisfaction from your involvement.
