2503 Sqn RAuxAF Regt EX Heathrow

2503 Sqn RAuxAF Regt personnel participated in Ex HEATHROW IMP 21 – 23 Jul, which allowed Sqn members to see first-hand the complex security operation being conducted at Heathrow Airport by the Metropolitan Police.

Parallels between RAF Force Protection and Civil Aviation security were identified and there were several opportunities to discuss implementing security procedures, contingency planning and the day-to-day running of the Metropolitan Police task.

Heathrow Airport has 75,000 employees and over 200,000 passengers a day which certainly brought home the enormity and seriousness of the Operation.   Following a busy Saturday programme the Sqn moved onto a London Staff Ride where Sqn members delivered Force Development stands at the Royal Air Force memorial, the Battle of Britain memorial, the Iraq and Afghanistan memorial and St Clement Danes church. Listening to the achievements and the sacrifices of our predecessors was incredibly humbling and really assisted Sqn personnel to better understand the ethos and heritage of the Royal Air Force.

The Exercise was very successful and has already been added to the 2018 Sqn planner where other Sqn members will have the opportunity to learn from the Metropolitan Police Operation at Heathrow Airport and the fantastic opportunity of a Staff Ride in London.
